Back to grinding and scandal at Absolute
huh...... i never seem to be able to make consistant progress.
My $1000 BR that i left behind has gone! I kept playing in those games and played poorly. Over confident, pushing flops and tilting badly. I played tired, i played loose and i spewed my BR away.
All in all i found myself doing things i promised i wouldn't......again! I eventually had to reload my account with $200 and start grinding it out again on the $5 SNG's again to build up a roll. I am now back playing the MTT's again but i am most definately staying away from the cash games. MTT's are what i'm best at and where my potential is....that's where i'm staying. So it may be some time before i'm back on the road to a nice BR again. Still i will have the time to finish reading Killer Poker 2 and Sklansky's Theory of Poker both of which i will report back to you on.
On a completly different front, there is a massive scandal brewing at the mainly US poker site of Absolute Poker. It seems that during a recent upgrade a consultant stumbled across a derelict account where he could see peoples hole cards. This was apparently left over from Absolute's inception and was part of the testing process to ensure that pots were correctly divided up to the right winning hands. Anyway, during the recent software upgrade a technician stumbled upon this account and decided to use it to destroy several cash games. Fortunately the online community are a pretty clever bunch of people and were able to analyse his stats to show he must have been cheating to perform the way he did. He was basically betting/calling every river card he was ahead and folding when he was behind. And he did this perfectly to every situation. This made him unbeatable. Initially Absolute Poker denied anything was wrong and said they had investigated and found no error. This was a serious misjudgement because it just led many to believe Absolute poker were in cahoots with the wrong-doing. Then someone at absolute poker emailed the players stats to a poster at 2+2 forums and the cheating was traced and exposed to an extent where Absolute could no longer ignore it or try to solve it internally. These are not the confirmed facts but the alleged ongoings and events. Either way it seems Absolute has a lot of explaining to do and someone somewhere has made an aweful lot of money through cheating.
What happens to Absolute and the online poker industry in general is anyone's guess now. Will people lose confidence in security and stop playing or not. Will Absolute itself go under? I almost signed up there as well. There was an offer on the Pocket fives forums to join a site and play som many hands and get 6 months access to another training site. I eventually signed up to Full Tilt but almost did so for Absolute.... close call; although i reckon it's probably about the safest time to play there at the minute. They will be working overtime on security, they will have a bonanza of offers to entice players back and all the good players who know about this have left. What better time for a player like me to go there......hang on........right. I'm off.
