Treble the starting Bankroll....

Alrighty.. i'm happy to report i'm once again heading in the right direction. I have banished my poor habits (for the last time i hope).

I did run my bankroll down to $12 at one stage. I entered a few $5 tourneys, an 18 ply and 27 ply one. I won the 27 man one and cashed in the other. This clawed my bankroll back from the brink but i still had to work hard.

I decided the grind was too slow playing these tourneys and so i entered a few big $5 MTT's on Pokerstars. I played tight and only played the good hands and people just seemed to donk off their chips to me. I managed to cash in them but nothing much...only slight profit and it was frustrating to take several hours for a $3 profit, but i wasn't actually frustrating. I found the tight patient approach helped me focus and calmed me. I played better poker and went out to bad beats. I felt that if i persevered that i would go deep in one of these. The trick is to not get caught up in hands where you can go bust to outdraws. Obviously it's difficult to make a profit playing this tight but as a rule i try to build smaller pots the lower my edge might be.

Sure enough i did, i came 4th out of 1800+ players in a $2:50 tourney for a win of $204. This and some solid performances built my bank roll up to $355. A great recovery from being down at $12 and looking at reloading.

I must make sure i do not go broke or become complacent like i usually do. I must break this cycle of boom and bust. It's wasting my time and is highly frustrating

The general advice for buy-in's for MTT's is 20-25 times the buy in in your bankroll. This assumes that during that time you'll cash deep enough to cover your bad beats and knockout when you're running cold. The trouble is that this projection is probably unrealistic for the learning amateur like me because it's advice that comes from disciplined pro's who can perform consistantly all the time. I guess by now you've already seen, i'm ill disciplined and inconsistant. I am trying to correct this but some time ago i set my rules as double the pro's advice. So i will move up to the $10 MTT's when my bankroll hits $400 (or should i wait till i hit $500) so that i have 40 buy-ins. Now even for me there will be something wrong if i cannothave a deep cash in 40 attempts. Obviously the swings will start to look noticably bigger now, but i realise that there is actually no diference.

Maybe i should wait to have 50 times the buy-in? Not because i think i'll blow it just because i think i should prove i have the discipline to raise my bankroll through the SNG's and i'm not moving up just because of a lucky MTT win. It would satisfy my rules more i think.

We'll see what i decide...not sure yet.
