A more determined approach!

I read with interest another poker blog today, about a fella in the US at university who bet his mate $100 that he could make $10,000 from nothing in a year. The blog details his exploits with some screen shots. It begins in quite a detailed manner but after about 4 months it loses its regular updates. Nonetheless the idea intriegues me.

I have no idea if the blog is actually real or not; the guy made it in 10 months, but it struck me as entirely plausible. To achieve it you only have to make a profit of $28 per day for a year. That should in my experience and at my standard be achievable. So i think i will give it a go.

Firstly there are two things to consider.

1. Why has my bankroll not expanded at this rate so far if i am capable of this?
2. What can i learn from this guy that might help?

Well in answer to question 1, there are several things that have hindered the growth of my bankroll recently. I do believe i am good enough to do this because i haven't had to reload for over a month now on any of my accounts and my Blue Square account actually got up to $800 in 10 days recently...i have since lost most of it. Thing is i know why.- i play too loose on occasion still- i watch tv and read at the same time- i play too long and get tired- i play too many games at once- i don't always watch the players and table and play the cards on autopilot- i have recently been playing big MTT's with re-buys above my bankroll that cost $60 a shot... that's a big chunk out of a bankroll thats falling when you play several a day- i never leave the cash tables till i lose. Now these are all things i can fix and stop and should make a huge difference to my bankroll if i am focussed.

Secondly what can i learn from this guy? Well he was prepared to risk his bankroll to get going but then he stuck to the levels he knew best and didn't have to play very high until his bank roll got over the $5000 mark. By then he could afford the odd loss. But i noteiced that he made most of his money playing in STT's or small 2 table MTT's. He also played limit poker...not so much but did and made good money at it; and he played NL ring games but at a low level of $0.25/$0.50 and chose to buy in for the maximum so the swing of losses didn't force him to leave. He would make steady progress of about $10-$15 profit an hour playing this.

I think i can plug the holes in my game and take some pointers from how he performed and i think i can easily make $27 a day.

So i set myself a challenge now - to make $12,000 in 12 months, starting from the 9th June 2006. This means i need to end each day $33 up on the previous.

Seeing as i have poker accounts already i am going to use the money i have in them as a starting balance and see how i go. I am not going to include any live winnings, probably because i don't expect to win there! No seriously it will be too complicated to draw money out and calculate if i add this in.

So let's begin and i'll start with a begining balance of my accounts...

Blue Square - $115:84
Pokerstars - $39:42
PartyPoker - $23:19
Ultimate Bet - $95:00
Ladbrokes - $17:10
William Hill - $34:55

Total - $325:10

Let's begin!
