Progress?

I had returned home by the end of March and without work i decided to give poker another shot, seeing as i was jobless and had empty days. I couldn't return to my job of teaching because i needed a police clearance check in case i had been an axe murdering paedophile in my time in Australia. Rediculous i know, but the whole country appears paranoid about these things on a daily basis, congrats for that must go to the News of the World i suppose.

Anyway...I made more deposits although much more cautiously this time and began play again.

i had a similar lack of success and things would no doubt have stayed that way if i had not bumbled into WHSmiths one day and caught sight of the first issue of the UK edition of the WPT magazine.

It led to an almost total immersion in poker. I watched all the poker i could find on late night tv and i began to learn.

I learnt a lot about play from the commentry of Mike Sexton and Vince van Patten. The WPt magazine taught me about tight play and that poker is essentially boring and i began to find out through the web links in the magazine, about people like devilfish and phil ivey etc.

With these starts and some uk player profiles i began internet reading on a variety of topics to do with poker. I looked at www.pokerpages.com and the hendon mob website and even invested in a few of the statistical poker bots, which turned out to be hopeless by the way.

i became enthused and realised that there was so much more to poker than good starting hands and conservative play. I even discovered the Gutshot cardroom website in london, logged on and found some guidance about pre flop and post flop play.

I began to realise that the game was divided into small segments, each with its own concerns and areas to consider but with a theme running through all of them, this theme could vary from hand to hand. I now realised that poker was very complicated, far more so than i had ever suspected. But with that realisation came an understanding that this meant it was possible to get better at the game and win at it over the long term.

My education had only just begun. There was clearly lots to do.
